Should we try to find a new chat platform other than chatroll, with a higher (at least 14) user occupancy?
Additional discussion as needed: Which chat platform to use

I think it should not have to happen again that people are getting locked out of chat on days like the trade deadline or draft time. I don't want to change it, personally as I am very familiar with chatroll, but understand that improvements can be made.
Personally: -I think the chat needs to be able to be embedded in the forum homepage/ESPN League Page -I do not want to have to pay for a chatroll -Any new chat needs to have 14+ capacity
I have no idea about other chat boxes, soo.... I know some of you guys have ideas lol

Could we add a second box??? Would that solve anything?

I don't think that would be good. I would rather have one bigger capacity chat than have to be signing into and switching back and forth between two separate chats. Plus I imagine it would be harder to keep track of convos.
I actually used to (briefly) be in a league with two boxes, and it was not ideal, they were stacked on top of each other and neither one was really great

Like I said before I don't know much about other chat boxes, but those are three things in order of importance to me that I have to say on it before I leave for work lol

Why do we need to have a chat embedded into a website? There are tons of great group chat platforms with a really good mobile apps and websites. Ex: I use Telegram for the league I run. The app is really good on your smart phone, but a lot of people use the website app where you can just pull it up.
My main thing is I feel like chatroll does a poor job of notifying of PMs. If we used a chat platform that I could get notifications on my phone of someone PMing me, I’d be much happier than closing out of the chatroll page every time because I’m not sure if hitting “refresh” actually worked.
Also, sometimes chatroll prompts a “fail to load chat” and will keep pressing the message until you suppress dialogue, and I feel like embedded chats could just slow down the PB page. Just thoughts.

Also, a private chat platform that requires invitation keeps unwanted owners out without trying to block out every IP address they can access from...

Can do whatever but I probably won't be on much at all if its not embedded on the proboards page. That is where I always do my chat. I don't want to have to open 2 separate pages.

I agree that embedded is a must. edit: chatovod.com/ - looks a lot like chatroll, doesn't seem to be a limit on users tlk.io/ <-- looks interesting, more mobile friendly. (not sure if you can private message, would be a deal breaker - worth testing to find out??)

Just curious, why is embedded a must? I feel like embedded chats are highly limited or have a cost attached to it, when the benefit is just not having to have two tabs open...

I've looked at chatovod and telegram both a bit this morning. I definitely feel like telegram would work better overall, especially since it has mobile support, but we want to make chat accessible to everybody however they want to access it too. From what I've read there is no way to embed telegram-even the web-based app- to our site here on freeforums.. Chatovod seems less secure, but It does look and feel a lot like chatroll with layout. I also looked to see how much it is to add capacity to our chat. Literally $19... a month If anyone else has chats they use or have found, post them here. I will be looking into other chats tonight/this weekend

I feel like a change to another embedded chat is just a lateral move. Yeah we might get more users but we still might have the same pain points as we do now with chatroll (mobile browser issues, lack of private chats for PMs, lack of notifications to inform you of PMs, message history)
If we elect to stay embedded I say we just stick with chatroll. Better the devil you know.

I fear that if we do not embed the chat the participation level will go down. I think people like to browse the boards while chatting to check status of their FA bids etc, and having the chat integrated promotes activity. Another options is: kiwiirc.com/The initial setup would take a little effort to get everything working smoothly, but there are IRC apps that we can use on our mobile devices that will send notifications.

I second the question of why embedded is a must...?

Embedded is not a must, but it would be nice to have an embedded chat because then we could navigate freely through the forum while always having the chat right at the bottom of the page.
I'm aware a non-embedded or app-based chat is "only a click away," but its much easier to hear a ping, and just scroll to the bottom of a page then be going back and forth between tabs, losing track of where you were on other pages. I hardly ever have only one tab open for this league. I open the forum so I can chat, ESPN for my team, and the spreadsheet. Sometimes I have 5 or more tabs open, and if I'm researching a trade (I promise I do lol) I could have even more open, and the chat would be harder to find.
It's not a must, but it would be nice to keep it the way it has been in this instance. The chat is right there on ESPN League page and all over the forum, even without phone notifications for PMs. If you've got a pressing offer or something, we've got each others phone numbers and emails available and can send out offers/messages through email too.
We may not find the perfect new chat, but at least we have good participation with how our chat is set up now.

Better the devil you know. Something to add onto this thought... if the main problem with chatroll is capacity, we could add capacity during like the four months of the regular season and/or draft time even though it does cost something. I am not advocating paying for more capacity, but it is an option
