In the case of a team starting 8+ SP.
We were currently going based on start times. So the pitcher than started first counted.
We are looking to change this to the pitcher that scores the lower total as the 7th.
My opinion is this is only the case if starts 7/8/+ are all started on the same day. If start 7 is on Saturday and 8 on Sunday, the Sunday wont count. If starts 7 and 8 are on Sunday(or any other day), the start with the lowest points will count as 7th start as the penalty of doing this.

I like this rule. Make sure people are more diligent about their starts.

I have one rebuttal: There have been multiple instances this year (I know I'm not the only one that's been affected) with a surprise opener showing up in their bullpen that has counted as a start without much warning. Should that person be punished with what's essentially a relief outing later in the day?
It's not a massive hang-up but i figured I'd bring it up.

It had been my assumption that we go chronologically, unless the 7th, 8th, and beyond starts are at the same time. So say if starts 7 and 8 are both 4:00 pm Sunday games, the lower point total would count, but if start 7 is at 1:00 pm, and start 8 at 4:00 pm, then the 1:00 pm start would count, even if it is higher points. I am not attached to this rule though, and will defer to whatever the league wants. Always using the lowest 7th+ start would be added incentive to not forget the limit, though.

Is this a setting or would it require a LM to make the change? If people don't care much, I dont necessarily want to put more requirements on them.

It is definitely worth bringing up, with the Openers being so prevalent now. There is a whole discussion that could be had on the topic.
My thought is I have no idea how to prevent surprise RP starts from happening beyond owners just checking lineups. I don't think an owner should be punished for having something come up on them last minute, but I also think that it's not anyone's job but their own to make sure they are protected against it happening.
To have an opener waste a PP is no fun, but it is part of the nature of the RP position now. We have way more RP guys able to be utilized in SP slots because of the opener, this is a consequence of that added flexibility.
With that said, I am all ears on suggestions for what you might do in the case of an opener being announced right before game time, and its effects on our 7 start limit

My stance is that if an opener starts in your lineup then it should still count
I agree with moze- Leclerc may have eaten up a start or two for me but the SP eligibility adds some value.

This rule proposal sounds good to me. Its the team managers responsibility to manage their own team the best way possible.
The surprise SP issue is also the team managers responsibility. The increased use of long term relievers has certainly changed how we manage our teams and many times benefited teams who use them but that is part of the risk/reward with using these guys. Sometimes you will get burned. Many times these RP guys will get you 15points without using an SP for the week so if you manage them correctly, it will still be an overall positive.
